Contextual Study Sketch Journal of a Traditional Street

This project introduced me to ways of reading the important "lexicons" of traditional streets through the tangible qualities of architecture and space, as well as the intangible socio-cultural attributes. It enabled me to understand the specific contexts that construct the distinctive place identity and socio-cultural meanings of the traditional streets. I captured my observations in a sketch journal along with a written summary.

REFLECTION

This was my first assignment for this module, so although it was considered a light workload assignment, I still spent days selecting the perfect building to hit all requirements. After that, I did intensive research on the street and the localitybehind it all. With pointers from my tutor and suggestions from friends, I slowly finished up my work. My tutor suggested to use the same design concept in layout designing to keep a thorough experience, which was what I tried to do. Overall, it was indeed a fun and quick assignment and I learnt a lot about materials and building method behind every building during the journey. This really shows that I have fulfilled thinking and problem solving skillslifelong learning and intrapersonal skills.
